ICS Pak Galvanic Isolators. Examples shown are 1½"and ¾"

Typical installation with multiple ICS Pak isolators within a cabinet.  A 35mm DIN rail is used with color coded raceways to identify intrinsically safe side wiring.

low-cost, DIN rail mount isolator with electrical isolation to intrinsic safety standards. Offers low power consumption, high accuracy, and fast response time. Choose from versions with a 1:1 signal transmission ratio or with signal conversion - mV to 4/20. Also offers a power supply for field devices requiring up to 2 watts of power.

General Description

The ICS Pak line is intended for use in applications which require both intrinsically safe connections and electrical isolation between the hazardous and nonhazardous areas. This requirement may be simply user preference or to reduce the risk of ground loop problems which may arise with zener barriers.

Unlike conventional isolators, the ICS Pak line has been designed to intrinsic safety standards for electrical isolation (galvanic isolation). They have also been tested in accordance with the IEC 801.1-5 directives for electromagnetic (RFI/EMF) compatibility and are marked as such with the CE stamp.

Aside from three types, all ICS Pak modules share a common 3/4" wide housing and may be mounted directly to either 35mm DIN rail or to a flat surface. Captured, self-opening screw terminals facilitate connection of all wiring to the module. An additional terminal is provided for wiring the EMI drain as required in IEC 801.1-5.

Where applicable all types contain LED's as a means of giving visual indication of both module and field circuit status. For multifunction types either DIP switches or a serial interface port is provided for programming signal and diagnostic functions.

The selection of these modules has been simplified with application-specific types which offer either 1:1 signal transmission or signal conversion characteristics. The modules are active devices therefore require an external power of between 18...35VDC. These are called loop drivers meaning that once energized, they will drive the field device and the nonhazardous area load. Where possible STA
HL offers several loop repeater types which do not require an external source of power.
