Several alternatives are available to calibrate the probes uses with the HygroFlex transmitters: For a quick on-site check of the probe and eventual adjustment (1-point), you
may want to use the HygroPalm 2 or the HygroPalm 3 portable indicator.
For scheduled maintenance, you may to want to rotate the probes (as opposed to
the complete instrument) between the measurement site and a calibration
laboratory. The HygroClip product line is designed to make this easy. In the
laboratory, the following alternatives are available to you: |
- Calibrate the probe using a HygroPalm 3 indicator
- Calibrate the probe using a spare HygroFlex transmitter (requires the display and keypad option)
- Calibrate the probe using a PC on which the HW3 software has been installed (requires either a calibration cable to connect the probe to the PC or a spare HygroFlex 2 or 3 transmitter).

HW3 Software: software based probe calibration is both simple and precise: there are no hard-to-reach, hard-to-adjust potentiometers. HW3 offers a high level of flexibility in selecting the calibration reference, giving the user complete control over the calibration process. HW3 features the following calibration modes:
Humidity: 2, 3 or 4 points
Temperature: 2 points
1-point adjustment function (offset) for both humidity and temperature
When humidity calibration is done using the Rotronic humidity standards, HW3 automatically corrects the value of the standard to reflect the temperature of calibration (see note). HW3 also offers the possibility of printing a certificate of calibration.
Note: the value of the standards does not depend on barometric pressure (altitude). |

Certified Humidity Standards: if you do not have access to a humidity generator, the Rotronic humidity standards offer a reliable and convenient way to generate a reference humidity condition during probe calibration. The Rotronic standards are shipped with an internationally accepted certificate, meeting in full the requirements of quality systems such as ISO 9000. The standards are available in boxes of 5 glass ampoules of the same value, and can be stored indefinitely. Standards in the range of 5 to 95 %RH are non-saturated aqueous salt solutions. The 0 %RH humidity standard is made of small granules of a highly porous ceramic. A Material Safety Data Sheet is available for each standard. |

Calibration Devices: a calibration device is a small airtight container that fits on the probe and seals around the humidity sensor. During calibration, a known reference humidity is produced inside the calibration device by means of a humidity standard.
Four calibration devices are available for the HygroClip probes:
ER-15 for 15mm diameter probes
ER-05 for 5mm diameter probes
EM-15 for type IE probes
ERV-15 for 15mm diameter probes (wall mounting) |

Probe Simulators: the HygroFlex uses the digital signal from the HygroClip probes, so drift of electronic components won't influence measurement performance. However, it is good practice (and in some situations a procedural requirement) to show that all inputs to the transmitter and the analog signal outputs have been tested. For this purpose, fixed humidity and temperature probe simulators are available (the standard version provides fixed values of 50%RH and 25°C/77°F). |
