M3 Series Installation:

Modular design simplifies installation and facilitates maintenance

Each M3 series transmitter consists of a base plate and a measurement module (electronics). The transmitters are calibrated at our factory and are shipped in an individual box for protection during shipment or storage.

Installation is a simple 2-step process:

Mount b.jpg (9027 bytes)

Step 1

The base plate is mounted and wired (a standard electrical box may be used in the case of a wall installation). Since the measurement module is not required during this part of the installation, it can be safely stored until all the work is completed.

Mount a.jpg (9327 bytes)

Step 2

Upon completion of the wiring work, the module is just snapped into the base plate and secured with the screws provided. Any module can be installed with any base plate, no special matching is required.

When it is time to re-certify calibration or if a repair is required, simplyreplace the HygroClip probe or the electronics module. Rehabilitated, fully calibrated and certified replacement probes and modules are available from RIC.

HygroClip Plug-in Probe

Both the HygroClip S and the base of the connector on the transmitter are marked with a dot. The locking ring is marked with 2 dots.

The probe can be inserted straight into the connector when all dots are aligned. When the dots are not aligned, the probe should be rotated clockwise during insertion.

After inserting the probe, turn the locking ring clockwise to secure the probe.

Field Service made easy

Service cable ACRLXB5

Each M3 series transmitter features a service connector that can be accessed without disturbing the output signals.

Service cableACRLXB5 is used to connect the service connector of the M3 to probe input 2 of the HygroPalm 3 portable indicator.

Field Calibration

Using the HygroPalm 3 indicator and the ACRLXB5 service cable, the following can be done:

a) 1-point adjustment of the HygroClip S probe against a reference probe connected to the HygroPalm

b) single- or multi-point adjustment against a reference environment (requires a humidity generator). When no humidity generator is available, ROTRONIC offers easy-to-use certified humidity standards to generate known humidity values

It is also possible to calibrate the HygroClip probe while removed from the transmitter. This allows a periodic rotation of the probes.

See: Probe Calibration

Validation of the signal loop

By displaying the signals of the M3 transmitter with the HygroPalm 3, the entire measuring loop can be validated: probe, transmitter, wiring and central processing unit. If so desired, the HygroClip probe can be replaced with a certified probe simulator that generates known fixed humidity and temperature values.

Networking

Networking via a RS232/485 network provides an excellent alternative to using the M3 transmitter analog output signals: simpler wiring, reliable digital communication and added functionality such as data logging, alarm functions, etc.  Using a HygroFlex transmitter as the master (RS232/RS485 interface), up to 31 M3 transmitters can be connected to form a network. Either the Rotronic HW3 software or a custom made R232 communications software can be used on a PC to read the network.

COM port
RS232 up to 12 m (39ft)
3 wires
RS485 up to 1000 m (3300 ft) between the two furthermost units 2 wires
