Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I only want to measure pressures and don’t care about flow, which model should I order?
A: If you are only interested in measuring pressures, then the model HM670 is the model you should order.
Q: What is the difference between the HM670 and HM680?
A: The HM670 is designed to perform gauge pressure, differential pressure, and temperature (with optional probe) measurements. The HM680 also calculates flow, differential temperature, BTU/Hr, pump impeller diameter size, brake horsepower and Cv (Kv). The HM680 also comes standard with a temperature probe.
Q: How is flow calculated with the HM680?
A: The operator enters the valve or other flow element Cv (Kv) factor. The HM680 measures the differential pressure, and temperature to calculate a temperature compensated flow using an industry standard flow equation.
Q: What if the hydronic system contains some other fluid instead of 100% water?
A: The user can change the specific gravity of the fluid to compensate for other system fluids.
Q: How many Cv (Kv) factors can I enter?
A: The HM680 has storage capacity for 100 separate factors.
Q: Can I customize the test ids and Cv (Kv) factors?
A: Yes, you can designate up to a 9 character custom test id and Cv (Kv) factor.
Q: How long is the warranty?
A: Two years
Q: How often should it be recalibrated?
A: Alnor recommends annual recalibration. The NIST-traceable Calibration Certificate has a 12 month expiration date.
Q: I use this meter in a wet environment. How resistant to water are these meters?
A: The HM670 and HM680 were designed to be water and splash resistant. A sealing gasket is used between the two case halves.
Q: What type of pressure sensors are used in the HM670/HM680? Are they designed to work with liquid media?
A: Yes, the new HM670 and HM680 use only stainless steel or brass wetted materials designed for continuous liquid contact. and are very corrosion resistant.
Q: Can I use these meters for air applications instead of liquid?
A: Yes, air is also a fluid.
Q: What is the maximum pressure that I can measure?
A: The HM670 and HM680 will measure up to 300 psi (2068 KPa).
Q: How soon can I get one?
A: Lead time is two weeks.
