| Traditionally, a process control system consists of a controller and its associated I/O sub-system located in the control room, connected to field instruments via multicore cables and junction boxes.
With Process I/O, the controller communicates directly along an open bus to an I/O 'node', located close to the field instruments in an appropriate enclosure. A choice of modular or block I/O devices makes Process I/O scalable and cost-effective for both small-scale nodes and large, high-density applications.
