High Shear Continuous Mixers CB/EK Series
High Shear Processor (CB Series)
The Littleford CB High Speed Processor is designed for high throughput rates.
The Littleford CB High Speed Processor features a horizontal two-part clamshell-type mixing chamber. The upper half of the shell is hinged and electromechanically actuated for easy
access. A jacket is supplied for heating or cooling media. The mixing tools are constructed of special wear resistant materials.
Granular bulk material is fed into the top of the mixing drum at the end opposite the drive. Liquids may be added directly into the rotating ring of material in the mixer through
a distribution manifold system. The manifold may be installed in either the upper or lower half of the shell.
The horizontal shaft utilizes a significant quantity of specially designed feeding and mixing tools arranged in a spiral-like pattern. The specially shaped, high-speed tools supply
high shear mixing rates, facilitate material transport through the mixer and disperse the liquid additives uniformly.
Product is discharged continuously through a bottom opening located at the drive end. The discharge rate is continuously regulated via a pneumatic gate control.
Additional processing flexibility may be achieved by utilizing a variable speed drive. By changing the shaft speed, the degree of densification and/or the throughput rate can be varied.
The mixer densifies the product by adding work energy to the materials via mechanical shear. The Littleford CB Series High Speed Processor may be used as a stand-along unit or in
combination with a larger Littleford KM Series Continuous Ploughshare® Mixer. The desired level of densification determines which equipment configuration should be used.
The versatility of the Littleford CB High Speed Processor is illustrated in the following list of typical process applications:
- Densification of bulk materials through addition of high shear input rates (e.g., detergents)
- Preparation of feed stock upstream of dryers (e.g., carbonaceous sludges, potato pulp, grain carriers with molasses, municipal and industrial dehydrated
sewage sludges)
- Granulation of pulverized products by addition of a binder (e.g., carbonaceous ash, clay, gypsum, detergents)
- Hydration processes (e.g., phosphates, sulfates)
- Blending pulverized material with fibrous material (e.g., gypsum + paper fibers, foundry mixes)
- Dispersions of agglomerates in bulk materials (e.g., filter cake + fly ash)

Particleboard Blender (EK Series)
Littleford EK Series tangential chip-gluing particleboard Blender incorporates the latest “state-of-the-art” technology to provide the forest products industry with several
outstanding economic and quality refinements in chip gluing.
The adaptation of tangential gluing simplifies material processing, improves chip-to-chip contact uniformity and facilitates the easy changeover in types of glue used. Glue formula
can be changed, e.g. from urea to phenol resin and also special glues or additives can be introduced without problem.
These chip gluing blenders are manufactured in six models to meet most production requirements. Throughput capacity ranges from 550 lb/hr to 55,000 lb/hr (based on bulk density of
6.25 lb/cu ft – absolutely dry).
The most significant feature in the design and operation of the Littleford EK Blender is that it uses the tangential gluing system.
A “see-thru” glue reservoir, connected to the fixed inlet tubes at the bottom of the blender, promotes easy monitoring of resin flow. Additional “see-thru”
ports, located on inlet and discharge chutes, permit observation of the flow of furnish as the blender is charged and discharged.
Other outstanding features of the Littleford EK Blender include a water-cooled blender shell, shaft and mixing tools. Condensation formed by the water cooling acts as a lubricant
that minimizes glue adhesion.
The ruggedly constructed, horn-shaped mixing tools are constructed of abrasion-resistant material and run the length of the blender to provide efficient blending action of glue and
other material of the mix. The tools do not break the chip material. The blender requires minimal downtime for cleaning. Glue does not drip when the machine is switched off.
A full length, easy open lid permits quick access to the inside of the blender for ease of cleaning and maintenance. The hinged top half of the blender is counterbalanced and equipped
with quick opening latches.
All metal product contact surfaces are constructed of corrosion-resistant stainless steel.
In addition, the Littleford EK Blender operation does not require air exhaust equipment or dust collectors. The unit is balanced and free of vibration.
