How Frigid-X™ Stainless Steel Panel Coolers NEMA Type 4-4X-316L (IP66) Work

Compressed air enters at point (A) into the vortex tube component of the panel cooler. The vortex tube splits the compressed air into a hot (B) and cold (C) stream of air. The hot air from the vortex tube is vented to the atmosphere at point (D) after being muffled to reduce noise. Hot air displaced from inside the control panel cooler or cabinet enclosure cooler is exhausted through point (E). Cold air enters into the panel (F) via the cold distribution hose (G). Holes (H) are punched into the hose kit to deliver the cold air inside the panel cooler where required. A muffler (I) further reduces the noise level of the exhausting air.

High Temperature Warning Sticker

Nex Flow™ offers a High Temperature Warning Sticker free with every Frigid-X™ Stainless Steel Cabinet Panel Coolers purchased for the air conditioning of electrical and electronic control panels. High temperature inside a control panel can be damaging to internal equipment and lead to unplanned shutdown of factory operations. The label provides for an effective warning with a color change indicator to ORANGE and a danger warning with a color change indicator to RED. Color change is reversible so when the temperature problem is corrected, the label can continue to be used indefinitely. While it is a qualitative measurement only, it provides an ideal cautionary monitoring of possible temperature problems within a control panel. Extra High Temperature Warning Sticker’s can be purchased.

How to Cool Electrical Enclosures:

Electrical enclosures or cabinets can be cooled several ways. They may be cooled by fans, water-cooled systems, heat pipe heat exchangers and air conditioners. Each system has potential limitations in cooling, or maintenance costs or can be affected by the ambient air. The Frigid-X™ Electronic Control Panel Coolers however are virtually maintenance free.

Adjustable Thermostat:

The Adjustable Thermostat provided with our Frigid-X™ Electronic Control Panel Coolers for on-off control is preset but is also an Adjustable Thermostat to reset the temperatures if desired.

Frigid-X™ Stainless Steel Panel Coolers NEMA Type 4-4X-316L (IP66) Selection

Cabinet Cooling,Solutions,Frigid-X,Stainless Steel Cabinet Panel Coolers,Cabinet Cooling Solutions,Cabinet,Coolers,Panel CoolersFrigid-X™ Electronic Control Panel Coolers come with a 5 micron filter with an automatic drain (except for the 316L stainless steel units) for the compressed air supply to insure clean, dry air and an air distribution kit to circulate the cold air inside the enclosure for even cooling.

Frigid-X™ Electronic Control Panel Coolers are available with or without thermostat control.

When constant cooling and a constant positive purge is required we recommend the continuous operating version without the thermostat and solenoid valve. The cooling effect can be controlled by adding a regulator in line to reduce pressure for reduced cooling when it is not required and to conserve energy.

Systems utilizing a thermostat and solenoid valve saves air by activating the air conditioner only when the internal temperature reaches a critical level. The adjustable thermostat is factory set at 95°F but can be readjusted on site.

Thermostat and solenoid valve systems are recommended where the heat load can fluctuate (such as for frequency drives) and where a continual purge is not required. The thermostat and solenoid "package" can also be added at a later date to a continuous system. An Electronic Thermostat System is also available replacing the thermostat and solenoid valve with a control box to “set” the temperature (ELC System).

If mounting cannot be on the top of the control panel an optional side mount is available (except or the 316L stainless units). Enclosure Cooling System must be mounted vertical either at the top or at the side using the side mount.

Continuous systems are best when constant cooling and/or a positive purge of the panel is required. On/Off control saves air by activating the unit when the internal temperature a critical level. the adjustable thermostat is factory set at 95ºF (35ºC). They are best used in applications where heat may fluctuate as in variable speed drives and where continuous purge is not required. All of our Frigid-X™ Electronic Control Panel Coolers are stainless steel for long life and flexible environments.

If a constant positive pressure is required with On/Off control (non-hazardour purge units) a special solenoid valve can be supplied to allow a small amount of air flow into the control panel when in the closed position. High temperature units for ambient temperatures in excess of 150ºF (67ºC) to 200ºF (93ºC) and higher are available.

  • Heat pipes and air to air heat exchangers cannot cool below ambient temperature limiting the cooling effect. Filters require monitoring and change to prevent failure.

  • Water cooled heat exchangers use water which is not compatible to electronics. In addition scale build-up can cause reduced effectiveness over time downtime for descaling.

  • Refrigerent CFC or HCFC heat exchangers are more costly with higher installation costs aand lower life expectancy. Installation requires a floor drain for condensate. Machine vibration can cause loss of refrigerant and component failure. Replacement cost of a compressor can be high. Filters require monitoring and change to prevent failure.
