What is a self-priming Centrifugal pump?
A unique type of centrifugal pump which eliminates the need for
external priming devices. If a centrifugal pump is located above
the suction vessel or sump (the pump is said to have a suction
lift), it must be primed before it can be started, to remove
air from the suction line and casing, and to fill the suction
line and casing with liquid. This must be done before starting
the pump, otherwise the pump will not work, and the air can damage
the bearings.
The priming operation on a regular centrifugal pump that is operating
with a suction lift is done by pulling a vacuum at the top of
the pump casing, using a vacuum pump or the plant vacuum system.
A self-priming centrigual pump eliminates the need for this external
priming mechanism

Solids Handling
Centrifugal Pumps - Gorman-Rupp U-Series
U-Series
(HIGH EFFICIENCY SOLIDS & CORROSIVE LIQUIDS PUMPS) are among
the most efficient self-priming, solids-handling pumps available.

10 Series Pumps
Gorman-Rupp
10 Series® pumps are specifically designed for
handling solids, corrosive liquids and slurries. They have
few moving parts, so maintenance is minimal. If a clog occurs,
it can be removed easily through the cover plate opening
without disturbing piping or the use of any special tools.

Self-Priming
Centrifugal Pumps - Gorman-Rupp 80 Series
Gorman-Rupp
80 Series Self-Priming Centrifugal Pumps are designed
for non-stop workloads. The straight-in suction design of
these high-efficiency pumps guarantees quick, positive self-priming
and allows them to operate at higher suction levels than
most other self-priming centrifugal pumps. Liquid enters
directly into the impeller eye.
