FII RESINS

Filter Innovations has an extensive range of ion exchange resins covering the full scope of functionality as well as different resin structures i.e. gel and macroporous. Filter Innovations Resins are utilised in a wide variety of diverse applications.

The products and their uses are summarised below :

Strong acid cation gel
Strong acid cation macroporous
Weak acid cation gel
Strong base anion gel
Strong base anion macroporous
Weak base anion macroporous
Chelating resins
Mixed bed resins
Nuclear resins
Weak base acrylic gel and macroporous
Strong base acrylic gel and macroporous
Pharmaceutical
Inerts
Adsorbents and Macronets (cation /anion/inert)
Chromatographic resins (PCR’s)
Catalysts
Uniform bead products

Unlike active carbons, Macronets can be tailor-made to have pore structure and pore size distribution for specific applications, and regeneration can be carried out in-situ at ambient or only slightly elevated temperatures.

Typical applications

• Removal of colour bodies, taste and odour from:
   1. Corn Syrups
   2. Cane Syrups
• Pesticide and herbicide removal from potable water sources
• Removal of phenol and chlorinated phenols from waste waters
• Detergent and aromatic removal from waste waters
• Mineral oil removal from water
• Citrus fruit juice debittering
• Dye removal from waste waters
• affeine isolation
• Removal of organics from gases

Mixed bed resin products are used for a range of applications including, spark erosion, non regenerable cartridges, high purity silica free water, production of partially demineralised water

• Recovery and recycle of waters and condensates.
• Separation and recovery of valuable organic and inorganic compounds and elements.
• Separation and recovery of precious metals.
• Removal of chlorinated hydrocarbons.
• Decolourisation of waste streams before discharge to water courses.
• Decontamination of radioactive wastes and effluents.
• Removal of pesticide residues from waste water streams.

Chelation resins will selectively remove particular groups of metals from solution. Chelation range covers lead, copper, zinc, aluminium, cadnium, nickel, cobalt, magnesium, barium, strontium, iron and mercury. The use of chelation resins covers the large industrial uses as well as the small cartridge based units used in spark erosion type services.

Ion exchange use in the food industry is widespread. Some examples:

• Milk whey for baby food formulations
• Gelatine extraction for jellies and other ingredients
• Fruit juice purification and debittering
• Extraction of enzymes, amino acids, lysine and others.
• Grape must treatment

Ion exchange resins are used in a variety of processes in the sugar refining industry, both beet and cane. The basic principles of sugar refining include:

• Decalcification
• Decolourisation using ion exchange resins and adsorbents
• Demineralisation
• Desugarisation of molasses
• De-ashing
• Quentin process
• Carix process
• Chromatographic separations

The production of sweeteners from either corn or wheat feedstocks utilises ion exchange resins in various processes. These include:

• Deashing/demineralisation of various syrups.
• Decolourisation and deodorisation of high performing sweetening products.
• Taste removal to prevent tainting of end use products.
• Chromatographic separation of mixtures to provide purer raw materials prior to further downstream processing.

Filter Innovations products are utilised in the recovery of valuable metals, such as gold and uranium.

Nuclear products are used in ultra-pure water, radiation waste, pharmaceuticals and condensate polishing.

Pharmaceutical grade resins have full F.D.A. approval.

Filter Innovations resins are used for domestic and industrial water softening.

Potable Water Supplies including applications such as:

• Water Softening: for use in jug filters, special products for various appliances e.g. dishwashers, washing machines, process water for soft drink manufacture.
• Nitrate removal from potable water supplies.
• Pesticide removal from potable water supplies.
• Dealkalisation of water for use in the soft drink, food preparation and brewing industries.
• Iodated resins for potable water disinfection.
• Arsenic removal
• Flouride removal
