Custom Injection Lances and Quills, Chemical Injectors and Spray Lances

Injection Lances and Quills, Chemical Injectors or Spray Lances – BETE takes its ability to provide robust spray nozzles one step further to construct spray assembly fabrications that you can install for immediate use.

Refineries and chemical plants have counted on BETE for decades to supply complete fabricated assemblies, custom designed from the nozzle up. Starting with the process conditions, we recommend the most appropriate nozzle and then incorporate it into an assembly that meets all mechanical design criteria.

Injection Lances and Quills, Chemical Injectors or Spray Lances – BETE works to your requirements, from the most simple to the most complex. Incorporation of client specifications is routine for us, as is design, fabrication, and inspection to code requirements. All design and fabrication work is performed at the same facility, ensuring close coordination through all phases of the process to ensure all mechanical, performance, and inspection requirements are met.

Custom Spray Nozzle Solutions - Light Cycle Oil QuenchCustom Spray Nozzle Solutions - Custom Fluid Injection Quills

Application #071137
Industry: Refining
Application: Fluid Injection
Product Description: Custom Lance Fabrication

Situation: A Bete customer was interested in using several injection quills in a multitude of their injection processes. The processes included wash water, sour water, and anti-foaming agent injection. The quills needed to include two connection flanges and be able to withstand the harsh process conditions.

Solution: The quills were fabricated from 316 stainless steel and Hastelloy C276 for the varying degrees of chemical resistivity and heat resistance necessary. The inlet connections are raised face, weld neck flanges and the process connections are blind raised face flanges. The flanges have pressure ratings from 150 to 2500 pounds. Some quills included a slot on the tip that creates turbulence in the fluid flow that helps distribute the injected fluid. Bete designed and fabricated the quills to meet the customer’s specifications.

Custom Spray Nozzle Solutions - Custom Tank Washing Lance

Application #051676
Industry: Chemical Processing
Application: Tank Washing
Product Description: Tank washing lance with custom connections

Situation: A Bete customer needed to wash 48? diameter x 56? tall tanks and wanted to be able to quickly move his tank washing apparatus from one tank to the next. The tanks had 2? “Tri-clamp” connections for washing apparatus insertion and the customer’s water supply lines had “Tomco” quick connections.

Solution: Bete Applications Engineers sized the nozzle to the tank, selecting the RTW21, and found sources for the non-standard connections. Bete Design Engineers developed adapters where needed to incorporate the connections into the lance. The finished product provided one stop shopping for a uniquely specialized product.

Custom Spray Nozzle Solutions - Retractable Cooling Lance

Application #050116
Industry: Petroleum
Application: Cooling
Product Description: Retractable Bete SpiralAir (SA) Lances

Situation: A Bete customer needed air-atomizing nozzle lances to spray cooling water in a refining regenerator vessel. The nozzles needed to be made out of high temperature-resistant Inconnel 625 nickel alloy. They also wanted an option of being able to retract the lances out of the gas flow when they weren’t needed, reduce wear on the nozzles, and improve airflow through the vessel.

Solution: Bete Design Engineers offered lance designs for both permanent and retractable options, designing the retractable lance components to over 150% of the customers 380°F (193°C) temperature specification, and also allows for 360° of nozzle head rotation if needed.

The Bete SpiralAir (SA) is a two-fluid nozzle that uses any gas as the atomizing fluid. There is a three-stage process that uses atomizing air more efficiently than conventional designs It is designed for high reliability in extremely hostile environments. The efficient design also reduces compressed air consumption. The SpiralAir can be configured to fit any installation requirements. The examples shown are just a few of the custom assemblies available. Because very small variations in liquid pressure produce large variations in liquid flow, BETE recommends using a metering pump or other flow metering device to control the liquid flow.

Custom Spray Nozzle Solutions - Toluene Injection

Application #061913
Industry: Chemical Processing
Application: Toluene Injection
Product Description: Special Bete XA Lance Assembly

Situation: A large chemical processor called Bete in need of a special XA lance to inject toluene into a process stream. The customer had an existing 36? duct with a 4" pipe entering it at a 45 degree angle. The BETE XA lance would need to enter through the 4? pipe yet spray parallel with the 36? duct.

Solution: Bete Engineers designed a special Bete XA body that would spray in a direction 45 degrees offset from the inlet pipes. This would allow the specified XAPR250 setup to spray co-currently with the process gas flowing through the duct. The body was incorporated into a lance assembly, also designed by Bete, providing a convenient solution for the customer.

Custom Spray Nozzle Solutions - Venturi Scrubbing Doubling Capacity

Application #060800
Industry: Pollution Control
Application: Venturi Scrubbing
Product Description: Special Bete SpiralAir Lance

Situation: A Bete customer contacted Bete about doubling the capacity of the SpiralAir 2303 nozzle. The customer’s scrubber requires approximately 40 gpm (151 L/min) of a 5% weight solids slurry with very high atomization using 200 SCFM (125 Nm³/hr) of air. The venturi expands at a 60° angle with a gas flow of 120 feet/second (37 meters/second). The customer expressed the desire to use only one nozzle in the scrubber and was against the use of two SpiralAir 2303 nozzles.

Solution: Bete Applications Engineers determined that a 3? SpiralAir spray nozzle design would meet the customer’s flow specifications. The 3? nozzle provides adequate capacity to meet the 40 gpm (151 L/min) required flow while providing ample area to provide 200 SCFM (125 Nm³/hr) or more of atomizing air to the system. A spray angle of 60°-65° was chosen to provide maximum coverage in conjunction with placing the nozzle just before the expansion section of the venturi scrubber. The 3? SpiralAir was designed with the F-10 lance assembly in mind for convenient installation by the customer.

Custom Spray Nozzle Solutions - Water Injection Nozzles

Application #061490
Industry: Petroleum Processing
Application: Material Injection
Product Description: Flanged Bete TF Lance

Situation: A Bete customer requested a quote for injection nozzles. The spray was to be co-current, centered in a 12? (300 mm) process line. The specification called for a 10? (250 mm) flanged connection. The purpose of this spray was to cool the process fluid through evaporation of the injected water.

Solution: Bete routinely creates custom products when the need arises, and this request was no exception. After debating the possibility of reducing the connection to something smaller, it was decided that it would make more sense to leave it, as this would allow easy installation of the nozzle, as well as require no changes to the specification. The lance drawings were approved by the customer, and they purchased two different nozzles, one with a TF10FCN tip and one with a TF14FCN tip.
