Isolating Interface Units from MTL

Choosing an Isolator Range

Four ranges of MTL Isolating Interface Units are available. These provide alternatives to shunt-diode safety barriers for protecting electrical circuits in hazardous areas. They isolate the electrical circuits in the hazardous area from those in the safe area and, since they do not need a high-integrity earth, are easier to apply than barriers. Also, because they allow the circuits to be earthed at some other point, they do not constrain the earthing arrangements. Isolators are normally designed for specific applications, further simplifying selection. In many cases additional features such as signal amplification, signal conversion and relays are also included.

  • Powered through busses 24V dc supplies to backplane
  • Wide range of applications
  • Compact and modular design with 'plug-in' connectors
  • High packing density, 16mm width
  • Reduced system engineering and insta llation cost
MTL3000 Series
  • DIN-rail or surface mounting, 25mm width
  • 24V dc or signal powered
  • Wide range or applications
  • Full input/output/power supply isolation
  • Compact design
MTL2000 Series
  • DIN-rail or surface mounting, 50mm width
  • 240V ac, 120V ac or 24V dc powered
  • Full input/output/power supply isolation
  • Support and extends the MTL3000 Series

The relative merits or galvanic isolators and shunt-diode safety barriers are discussed in technical paper TP1113.
